How to Compare Quotes

There are a number of nasty ways to get caught out with quotes from different providers. At Blinds Dept, we are committed to simple and transparent pricing.

Our prices cover the total cost of your Blinds. Mounting options are universal, so you can choose where to fit your blinds, how they are rolled, and which side to have your chain. We don't charge extra for any configuration options. Blinds are inclusive of GST and delivery is calculated separately.

When comparing quotes, it's always important to compare 'like with like.' For example, don't compare a roller blind blind with a curtain, they are completely different products.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when comparing quotes:

PERFORMANCE

There are three main types of roller blinds, each with slightly different purposes: Blockout, Light Filtering and Sunscreen. Quotes may vary, depending on the type of blind and fabric. All of our blinds are made in Australia with blockout properties. Our blockout blinds are designed for privacy, light control and heat control.

Blockout

  • Complete Privacy
  • Good for insulation
  • Maximum protection from UV, heat and glare
  • Complete blockout for sleep
  • Energy Efficient
  • Affordable

Light Filtering

  • Controls light, does not blockout
  • Daytime Privacy only
  • UV protection

Sunscreen

  • Some privacy, while giving clear view from inside
  • Allows light through
  • UV protection
  • Energy Efficient

OPERATION

There are three main types of opening/closing methods for blinds. Spring Operated, Chain Operated, Electric. All of our blinds are chain operated. You will find that Chain Operated blinds are the most reliable, affordable and commonly used.

Spring Operated

  • Affordable option
  • Unreliable and prone to breaking
  • Child safe
  • Poor tracking

Chain Operated

  • Affordable option
  • Easy to operate
  • Customisable chain side
  • Larger blinds are fitted with spring assist
  • Child safe

Motorised

  • Easy to operate
  • Good for hard to reach windows
  • Expensive
  • Not DIY friendly

INSTALLATION

A DIY solution means no measuring or installation costs! If you choose to have someone install for you, expect to pay up to $120 for measuring and $20 per blind for installation.

DELIVERY CHARGES

Delivery can vary significantly between suppliers. Some businesses charge per blind which can quickly get expensive, others are free. ShuttersDept charges a flat $25 delivery to most metro areas. Outside these areas contact us for a quote - you just pay cost.

GST

By law, businesses are required to quote inclusive of GST. Be wary of those who don't.
